The pan anti-di-methyl-symmetric Arginine (anti-Rme2sy) rabbit polyclonal antibody is produced by immunizing rabbits with symmetric di-methylated arginine KLH. Antibodies are purified by peptide agarose affinity chromatography.

Important

For Western blotting, incubate membrane with diluted antibody in 5% nonfat milk, 1 x TBS, 0.1% Tween-20 for two hours at room temperature with gentle shaking.  

Use at an assay dependent concentration. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

Scientific Description

Arginine is a positively charged amino acid known to mediate hydrogen bonding and amino-aromatic interactions. The nitrogens of arginine within polypeptides can be post-translationally modified to contain methyl groups, a process termed arginine methylation. Protein arginine methylation results in the addition of one or two methyl groups to the guanidino nitrogen atoms of arginine. There are three main forms of methylated arginine identified in eukaryotes: ω-NG, monomethylarginines (MMA); ω-NG, NG-asymmetric dimethylarginines (aDMA); and ω-NG, N′G-symmetric dimethylarginines (sDMA). Arginine methylated proteins are involved in many different cellular processes, including transcriptional regulation, signal transduction, RNA metabolism, and DNA damage repair. Arginine methylation is mediated by at least nine different arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs).


Storage & Stability

The antibody is kept in PBS with 50% glycerol and 0.01% sodium azide. Upon receipt, please centrifuge the antibody at 12,000 x g for 20 seconds and store the antibody at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Stable for 12 months from date of receipt. Leave the antibody at room temperature for 2 minutes and gently mixed using pipette before usage.
